Indonesia adopted its first legal framework for the protection of Indonesian migrant workers in 2004, with the enactment of Law No. 39 Year 2004 on the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers. This legislation was replaced 13 years later in 2017 through the adoption of Law No. 18 Year 2017 on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers.
